Hire Dr Matt Laye →Dr Matt Laye has been running for nearly 25 years having competed at UC-Davis in college before moving to marathons and ultramarathons. As a successful ultra athlete he won the USATF national trail championship in 100 mile (13h17m). He has been interested in the science of training since an undergraduate when he majored in Exercise Biology before completing a PhD at University of Missouri in Medical Physiology and completing five years of postdoctoral research focused on aging, exercise, and overall health. He is now the Chair of the Department of Health and Human Performance at a small liberal arts school in Idaho where he mainly teaches Exercise Physiology, Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, and Research Methods. In addition he is actively conducting research on the microbiome and metabolism of ultra runners. Matt uses his scientific background combined with wide range of experiences as an athlete to create customized training programs for a variety of distances and surfaces.
